With husband Liu Yiqian’s support, Wang Wei initially founded a small auction house in 1996, where she gained many consignments. Though the auction house closed several years later, it provided Wang Wei a possibility to collect artworks at an unbelievable low price. She was the leading collector who interested in the emerging Chinese contemporary art around 2000, so established Chinese contemporary artists like Zhang Xiaogang, Zhou Chunya, etc are all her close friends. Of course, her bold bids at that time will make her a lot fortune in today’s art market, but her principle is to long term investments. Currently, Wang Wei is the curator of Long Museum. Her systematic collection of Mao era and Chinese revolutionary paintings is the highlight of the museum.
